IMOO, I would still go for Intel's higher CPU frequency as some application do spike a lot and really benefits from the higher CPU Mhz. (ie, Scale Up)

Scale Out is good (ie, more CPU in AMD sense, there is 64 CPUs in 2U which is amazing!), but with the limit of 96GB in vSphere 5.0 per physical CPU limit, I don't think more CPU in a 2U rack server is the way to go in the future. May be it's the way if VMWare raise the bar to 256GB per socket, which again is a mission impossible for the next 3-4 years I think.

Well, just my 2 cents, any thoughts?
