History of Exoto
Original route as that of Tony Keusseyan, which begins in Lebanon adopted land of his grandparents who were able to escape the Armenian Genocide. Immersed in the automotive world from birth (his father worked at BMC), Tony collects miniature with passion. Growing up, the automotive passion never leaves him, and he began his working life alongside his father who has since founded his own company, Polimar. Newbie in steel construction, Polimar specializes quickly in high-end products for the finishing of car bodies, to the United Arab Emirates.

Exclusive Cars
Tony Keusseyan then went to live in California, where he founded in 1986 the company Exoto for Exclusive Cars. Exoto undertakes activities in line with family tradition, transforming luxury cars to make them even more exclusive. Hunt the natural, and their spots! The passion for miniature Tony never left, so quickly born a “miniature” department within the company, which imports and distributes different brands of thumbnails. The catalog will even have more than fifteen thousand references!

Exoto
Particularly demanding, and therefore eternal dissatisfied, Keusseyan Tony decides to take the plunge and produce its own models. The choice is fixed quickly on 1/18, a scale booming in all markets, and for a host of details. Thus was born the first model of the brand Exoto, the Lotus 49 Formula 1. A marvel, but that smile today about recent accomplishments brand has risen in ten years at the top. Word of mouth quickly made its effect and anchor the reputation of Exoto among the hardest collectors. The offer is diverse, ladders too, with the 1 / 43th and 1 / 10th.

Dubai
Like its competitors, Exoto built its models in China, but quickly moved a production line in Dubai, working exclusively for the brand. An incredible work is done upstream of the reduced model exhibited in a glass case. When possible, many measures are taken from a real model (not always possible when the model no longer exists, as was the case with the Ferrari 156 “Sharknose” which all copies were destroyed by Ferrari at the end of the season), a mass of documentation and plans met, then starts the numerical modeling of all the elements that form the miniature (which can currently count more than two thousand pieces for a model 1 / 18th!). Then comes the design and realization of tooling for the production of all components of the model.

Current Projects
The materials are also changing. If there a few years ago, most parts were cast in zinc alloy or plastic, is now aluminum, copper, brass, stainless steel and even leather involved in the achievements of these true collector’s items such as Alfa Romeo Alfetta 159 or Ferrari Tipo 246 Formula1, offered in different variants. And the future looks promising, with a Jaguar D-Type and Ferrari 250 LM from coming next. Rare, exclusive, the Exoto are hard to find commercially.

古董Make Up Kit: Made in England?

英國製造真的特別,因為之前見過的Kit都是日本製作的。

上海bjames跟我說,原來這個是英國SRC生產的KIT放在Make Up東京總店寄賣的,最多是合作形式,並不是真正由MU生產的。

討論: 到底Make Up算不算是手辦?

近幾年看過很多評論,相對於很多傳統的手辦汽車模型,講嚴格來講Make Up其實並不算是手辦,最多是一件工業產品。

對於手辦網路上的定義是這樣講的:

手辦經常會被當作人形。但其真正意義上的手辦都是表現原型師個性的Garage Kit,是指沒有塗裝的模型套件。很多人會誤解其為所有樹脂材質的人形作品,但其特指的就是未塗裝的模件。因為在開模的複雜度上有著很高的難度,因此價格一般都很昂貴。因為樹脂材料的特性,很適合表現非常細緻的細節部分和人物。大部分手辦都是工廠提供的半成品白模,需要自己動手打磨、拼裝、上色等一系列複雜的工藝,而且難度遠大於一般模型製作。單單從上色來說,需要一定的美術功底以及噴筆這樣昂貴的塗裝工具。 但在現在很多玩家都習慣了手辦指人形的用法。

有些人認為白鐵打磨出來全開的1比43那些才算手辦,也有人認為TAMEO/MU Kit經過大師做的那些才是手辦。

如果單純用生產數量來界定是否手辦的話,那麼MU那些1/20 1/30的肯定是手辦。

但如果說怎麼界定工業產品,這個我就不清楚了,所以才需要大家要一齊討論,也讓我們聽聽其它人的意見…因為我最近經常看見別人評論MU和BBR 250 GTO,以及他們之間做工的比較。說MU的比較精細,感覺是工業產品,但BBR的雖然粗糙,但富有手辦感覺。我兩個品牌都有,MU有3台,BBR有一台。那些眾多的評論搞到我現在有些混亂,所以要請教大家這個問題,看看大家是怎麼看的。

Btw, 我從來都沒有說我認同MU是工業產品,也沒有認同BBR是手辦。

其實順道想問一下,那些每款產量不過200台的1比18 IG 樹脂膠日系車算不算手辦? 那麼1/18 MR/Frontiart/APM/Versus/Spark甚至1比8的Amalgam 這些又算不算是首辦呢? 因為我覺得整個首辦概念現在變得十分模糊,所以真的想搞清楚。
